Global demand for water decolorizers surges, driven by environmental policies and technological innovation

On May 20, 2025, the International Water Treatment Association reported that driven by the upgrading of industrial wastewater discharge standards and circular economy policies, the global water decolorizer market is expected to exceed US$4.5 billion this year, with a compound annual growth rate of 8.3%. The Asia-Pacific region accounts for 52% of global demand, and the upgrading and transformation of the textile printing and dyeing industries in China and India has become the main driving force; the European and American markets focus on the deep treatment of municipal wastewater, and the purchase volume of bio-based decolorizers has increased by 20% year-on-year.


 


Application scenarios expand to high-precision fields

Traditional fields such as papermaking and printing and dyeing industries still dominate, but emerging applications are rising rapidly. The electronic semiconductor industry promotes the development of nano-scale decolorizers to ensure the quality of ultra-pure water; in seawater desalination projects, the demand for salt-resistant decolorizers has increased by 30%. In addition, drinking water safety projects in Africa and Latin America are accelerating, and the import volume of low-cost composite decolorizers has doubled.

 

Green technology reshapes the industrial landscape

The carbon neutrality goal forces the industry to transform. Giants such as Germany's BASF and the United States' DuPont are competing to deploy low-toxic and degradable decolorants, and the commercialization process of enzyme-catalyzed decolorization technology is accelerating. Relying on the membrane separation-decolorant combined process, Chinese environmental protection companies have won orders of more than US$500 million along the "Belt and Road". Analysts pointed out that the future market will show a parallel trend of "high-end customization + regional differentiation", and intelligent precision dosing systems may become a new high ground for competition.
